                     FAQs

How long is each therapy session?

Sessions are 45min long.

On occasion, I may feel a longer session is needed and therefore would recommend a 75min session.

How much does a therapy session cost and do you take insurance?

A 50-minute session is $275.00.

I am considered an out-of-network provider, which means I am not contracted with any insurance company and payment is made directly to me by the patient. However, most PPO's will reimburse for part or all of your therapy sessions with me. Some health plans, like HMOs, do not reimburse for out-of-network providers, which means that as the patient, you would be responsible for the full amount charged.

Please call your insurance carrier to determine if you have mental health coverage and ask if they provide reimbursement for out-of-network providers.

Update 2026:

Given how difficult it is to find available therapists right now, many insurance companies are reimbursing part—or in some cases all—of therapy sessions through out-of-network benefits, even when mental health coverage is limited or when plans are HMOs. I encourage you to contact your insurance company directly to ask about reimbursement options and to explain how challenging it has been to find an in-network provider.

In my practice, nearly all of my clients receive some level of reimbursement, even when their plans initially indicate limited or no out-of-network mental health coverage.

If you decide to explore this option, the following steps may be helpful:

  • Asking your insurance company about out-of-network mental health reimbursement and whether they offer single-case agreements

  • Asking whether your plan offers gap exceptions due to limited in-network provider availability

  • Documenting any difficulty you’ve had finding an in-network therapist who is accepting new patients, and requesting to work with a case manager to help locate mental health services

What type of therapy do you use?

I am a behavioral therapist who uses mostly Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I also sometimes sprinkle in some Cognitive Therapy and Animal Assisted Therapy. I believe in being creative (especially when working with kids and teens) and tend to incorporate art, humor and music into my sessions.

What is Behavioral Therapy?

Behavioral Therapy is a form of therapy that identifies unhealthy behaviors and works to change them. The methods used in Behavioral Therapy, focus on either just behaviors or in combination with thoughts and feelings that might be causing them. The theme in Behavioral Therapy, is that all behaviors are learned and that unhealthy behaviors can be changed. The focus of treatment is often on current problems and how to change them.

Does your therapy dog come to every session and can I ask that she not be there?

Kaia is not at every session and is only present for those who request her to be there.
